Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to digg:
http://digg.com/politics
In August 2005 it had 17,000 registered users.
In July 2006 it had 500,000 registered users.
In January 2007 it has ?????? (probably a LOT more)
I have no clue how many lurkers there are. All I know is that it creates so much traffic and crashes websites so often it has a nickname "digg effect".
Digg is a user driven news service. People submit stories and other users select which ones they want to get to the front page. It is known for crashing websites due to insanely high traffic flow. Although anyone can join the website there reasonable (i.e. not loony bin Daily Kos) left wing slant to be seen on digg.
I posted a few NRA stats + link and then went to a bunch of gun forums/chatrooms/etc and told people to digg up the article and take part in the discussion:
http://digg.com/politics/Something_that_gun_control_advocates_don_t_like_to_hear
Now it's on the front page
http://digg.com/politics
with ~1,200 diggs and ~350 comments. That may not sound like much but this means tens of thousands of people, right and left, just visited the NRA website. This is a great way to reach out and educate people about firearms. And the best part is that it's free. If you read the comments in the thread, it's obvious some people changed their mind about firearms.
That is all. Just wanted to share the good news. :-D
