A few Sig P220 questions

I've got a pre-1994 W. German Sig P220 that I'm considering trading in on a newer version with solid guide rod, reinforced frame, new trigger/hammer, etc. Does anyone know what exactly Sig did to the newer frames to reinforce them? I was looking at the chamber of my barrel in the light, and it appears to be chrome lined, but I've never heard of them chrome-lining their chambers. Although I don't hear Beretta bragging much about chrome-lining their bores either... If my chamber IS in fact chrome-lined, does Sig still chrome-line their new P220 chambers? Any info would be much appreciated.

Hello. I am NOT a P220 authority, but mine was made after yours. It's my understanding that the frame is NOT beefed up, but that a heavier recoil spring was used with later guns and can be identified with green paint that marks it. My gun's barrel is NOT chromed. Best.

Yes, a minor modification was made in the gripping area. Hence the reason why the old stocks will not fit on the new model sigs. I had a pre 94 sig, sold it :( , got a new model sig a year later, and hated it from the start. The ergonomics were completely ruined. (for me at least) Try shooting one of the new ones BEFORE you get rid of the old one.

Greetings; I believe that both of the preceding reply's are correct; however
I've never seen a chromed lined Sig
barrel? My P220 is of W. German markings;
but it has the heavier (green colored)
recoil spring; and the slightly re-designed
grip. I've been told that current production
220's come with the pebble grained, plastic
grips, much like the 228's and 229's? If that
is the case, I much prefer the "old style"
grips, that are on my 220.

I appreciate the replies. I'm not claiming the entire bore of my P220 barrel is chromed - only the chamber. If you own one, look closely at the chamber walls in the light and see if it doesn't look silvery. Thanks.

ether,

Neither the ramp or the barrel is chromed. The silvery finish comes from polishing the feed ramp. It's polished to the point that it actually looks chromed. SIG Sauer no longer polishes the ramp to a mirror gloss, instead they now polish the ramps and then blue the barrel.

My ramp is blued like the rest of the exterior of my barrel. The interior of my chamber, however, is silvery. The silver ends abruptly at the very mouth of the chamber in a noticeable "seam". By that, I mean that it's obvious where the silvery interior stops and the bluing on the exterior begins. It looks like a chrome job as opposed to gradual polishing over the years by rounds being chambered.
