A couple of revolver questions

Was in a local bait/gun store today and saw
a couple of revolvers I'd like your input
on.

1: S&W 1917 .45 6in. bbl. Had no finish.
didn't handle it, but it "whispered" to
me. He's asking $225. Any comments on
this model's reputation?

2: Ruger Speed Six. This one "whispered"
a little louder. .357,2 3/4(?)bbl,
factory dehorned (speed) hammer.
Overall about 85% condition;some
wobble front to back;locked up tight;
probably a police trade-in. He was
asking $225. Any thoughts on this one?

Don't really need either, but they both
had a certain character and I know he's
had them in the case for a while.

The 1917 would "Whisper" a bit louder to me - but then I have a Ruger Security Six with the 2.5 barrel. (Though that Speed 6 is indeed nice.)

Don't know about the price. I suspect it depends somewhat on your area. And of course on the shape of the guns.

Sport,
I can hear the 1917 S&W calling to me from here, tell where to send the $$$$.

Sorry, Rugers dont talk to me.

I've got a 1917, but the other one would would still whisper a lot louder to me.

Is it one of Brazilian contract guns? If so, it will have a big Brazilian crest on the side.

$225 may be a little on the high side for a gun that has no finish.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

i was not aware that the speed six ever came with a factory bobbed hammer. i have modified them in that fashion and it makes for a slick carry gun. i do not think it is factory though.

Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the outcome of the vote.
Let he that hath no sword sell his garment and buy one. Luke 22-36

AFAIK, the bobbed hammer was a factory option. As always though, Ruger may bend a bit more to accomadate a LE contract than they will for the general market. My uncle has one like that in SS, but in .38 only.
