I picked up a couple of Model 27's today. They are both 27-2's, and in excellent condition.

A five incher and a six.

From "the good old days".

I Already have.

I'll keep them clean and looking good, but they are definitely "shooters". I used to do the safe queen thing, but I gave it up for stamp collecting

I've owned a couple of M27's and a few Highway Patrolman models (28) and they shot quite as well as a Colt Python I had. At 25 yards, offhand, they would shoot within two inches, if I did my part. From a braced sitting position, they were fantastic.
Remington's 158-grain JSP and JHP ammo seemed to be their favorite. These guns all had six-inch barrels, save one with 6.5-inch bbl. I also had a recent (1990) five-inch M27, but it wasn't as accurate.

I wish that S&W still made guns like that! I like progress but I don't believe in replacing something until something better comes along. Revolver shooters tend to be traditionalists and most of the new Smiths look like they came from outer space.

I have a couple of J framed Colt Troopers in 357 Magnum. I appreciate their quality. I really wanted a solid M27 S&W. I lost out on one just before Christmas. I scored a excellent M28 6"recently. A great revolver but, I still want a M27 5". Congratulations.

Nice revolvers. I picked up a 27-2 nickel 3 1/2 last week. There's just something about the original.

About a month ago I picked up a 27-2 unfired. I'm not a safe queen kinda guy! What do you think? shoot it or not? This gun has been in a safe sense the guy bought it. The gun looks new!

It depends. Are you a shooter or a hoarder? I enjoy shooting and have stated that I won't own anything I won't shoot, however, that does'nt mean I have guns I have'nt shot. At least not yet.

You've all inspired me, I just sent the money for a Model 27-2 I am buying from one of the boards. It looked to be in excellent condition from the photo's, its a 6" blued model. Now the waiting begins, but I will just savior the time until it arrives at my FFL.

Broke, but happy in Long Island..... :D

Seb5 I'm a shooter and hoarder. I really don't know how many guns I have without doing a count. Maybe around 60? But I like to shoot when ever I can. I kinda like the idea of having safe queen. BUT! I was thinking making the frist shot with the 27 a deer kill at close range? I don't think I need to sight the gun in for a 15 to 20 yard double lung shot.
