A Columbine student commits suicide

The news today said that one of the students who was in the library during the shooting has commited suicide.
I can't help but wonder if the fact that the media and school officials will not let the shooting die, was a cause of this young man taking his life. When something as shocking as a mass shooting happens right in front of you, a person needs to deal with the after effects and then put it behind them and get on with their life. It may take time for closure, but no one will let the shooting go away. The media and school officials want to keep the shooting fresh and alive in the minds of the students.
If the shooting was not in the students face every time they turned around, I belive it would be easier for the students to get on with their lives.
Do you feel that media attention may have contributed to the students suicide? I for one do.

I'm certain that the constant attention and disruption of the student's lives has created an unhealthy environment for all of them. Sadly, guilt about surviving is one of the primary symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Gary's right. Anniversary dates of traumatic
incidents are very stressful for survivors.

The media play can push someone over the edge.

They are despicable for the sensationalist replays of the incident.
