A Christmas Message from Senator Joseph McCarthy

It seems that Senator McCarthy is much in the news again lately, and the timing could be no better. You see, while many fondly remember the McCarthy era for its attack on Communist infiltrators in government and the military, one of the greatest ills Joe tried to save us from was Communists in Hollywood. Sure, many so called “talents” were properly black listed – but did we go far enough?

The dubiously titled “It’s A Wonderful Life” has already begun to infiltrate your holiday television schedule. Despite everything, this vile anti-American film soldiers on, luring us in with its supposedly Christian message while secretly exposing the public to its Communist doctrine.

“What, this can’t be!” you say. But look at the facts. The so called “bad guy” of the story is a sterling capitalist – a self made man whose success and wealth make him the target of derision by the town folk. He is depicted as an ugly cripple. His nemesis is a banker whose appalling Socialist business practices have led to his downfall. From there the film traces out a Marxist revolution, starting with Jimmy Stewart’s suicide and “redemption”, which is obviously the proxy for Marx’s “violent upheaval”. From there we see how unchecked capitalism supposedly ruins the lives that Stewart’s Commie character is unable to properly indoctrinate. And the whole time, Charlie the Angel watches and advises, looking for all the world like a leering Nikita Khrushchev. All is saved in the end when the townspeople give up their hard earned savings for the “good of all”. Right.

Of course, this was not Jimmy Stewarts first anti-American slander film. His notable performance playing the Fascist sympathizing Charles Lindbergh will not be soon forgotten. Nor will his role in the film “The Man Who Knew Too Much”, a picture that presents a sympathetic and humanizing depiction of Communist spies.

Unfortunately, this problem seems to pervade the entire season’s entertainment. Take the collectivist, socialist message of “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, or the rabid anti-gun, pro-Chinese message of “A Christmas Story”. The Commies are still out to get us!

So please, protect your impressionable wife and children from such Communist Trojan Horses this season by keeping your TV tuned exclusively to Fair and Balanced Fox News.

And remember, Christmas is about Jesus; even if he was a Jew.

Very funny post, Handy. :) Completely misinterpreted, but funny nonetheless.

Are you the author?

Yep, I wrote that, and the what you've changed into your signature line.

Satire is where it's at, this holiday season.

I hear that if you take a DVD or VHS tape of "It's A Wonderful Life" and play it backwards, you'll hear "Vote for Hillary Clinton for President" repeated 1313 times and that an image of Bill being serviced by Monica will appear in the air above your TV set...

Take the collectivist, socialist message of “A Charlie Brown Christmas”
This one was the funniest to me. I just finished presenting this Christmas show to the youth group at my church. I had many themes to highlight in our discussion afterward, but I must have missed the collectivist, socialist message. :D

At the end of the show, the kids take all the Christmas decorations off of Snoopy's house (From each according to his means...) and put them on Charlie Brown's tree (to each according to his needs.). Clearly Marxist. How could I not have caught that...

Makes me worry about this coming Sunday's class. Are there any hidden political messages in The Grinch that Stole Christmas?

Yeah, I realize that it is a spoof. Just waht was on my mind. Always hated looking for hidden meanings in things in school, really made me mad.

In school you were taught to look for the "theme", not "hidden meaning". Being able to appreciate allegory is not a thought process that should make you mad.

However, that stuff does get laid on thick. I see nothing wrong with appreciating a good plot, smooth prose and interesting characters. But that comes easier than reading the theme, which is also right there.

Wish I had your teachers. One specific reason I remember was when we spent an entire day on disseminating why Dostoyevsky (sp?) put in a specific Russian word in Crime and Punishment, including a three page paper on why another word would have not worked, and why he felt that specific word was important.

Rats.

Just when I thought I was getting a handle on Joe McCarthy vis a vis the HUAC and witch hunts and how much one had, or did not have, to do with the other, you go and stir the hive...

Nice one.
:D
