A challenge to our lady members.

I would like to task the lady members of TFL to start a thread about why I love or hate my xxxx. The things you would like see different and the works. If we could get this information to the manufacturers you might see changes brought out that you helped to push forward. I know that using hand me down men's weapons couldn't satisfy your every like.

Gale...I'll let you know after I start my lessons and have some idea of what I'm talking about! Had to reschedule today's lesson :( but hopefully will get in later this week or early next!! :)

Jess...you crack me up!! :D

If I ruled the world, Glocks (and all other guns for that matter) would be available with different sized grips/stocks as options. Why gunmakers think that every shooter is some big, burly 6'4' 300lb hulking mass of muscle with hands you could hide a small country in is beyond me. Now if the corporate giants that manufacture firearms would listen to me, they would have a setup like clothing stores...different sizes to go with their different styles available.

I love my Mini-14, except for....

I'd like a thicker barrel, instead of that heat sensitive noodle they use; and shave off about 1/2 to 3/4 lbs off.

I don't own one yet but I would have to agree with missmanytoes about different sizes and less weight even better.

Jess...C'mon pink is for wimpy girls :D That would not look good crusing in the TA! :D

Do you really think I want a pink gun? It was a joke…
I was thinking more a lighter shade of yellow…

I went to the beauty shop (it didn’t help me any...but at least I tried :D) While the technician attempted to beautify me, I had time to think about your question. I’m afraid I failed to come up with a good response. I really have not come across a firearm that I had difficulty handling. I tried a few that felt bulky or too heavy, but nothing too devastating. My arms often get tired holding up a rifle, no matter what their weight, so I just put it down and rest awhile. The same goes with the heavier target pistols.

But I do have a rant. I went to our local gun shop before getting somewhat beautified. I heard they had a High Standard and I wanted to see it for myself. The clerks in this store are so rude to women. One day I waited twenty minutes for help while they talked on the phone. They rarely acknowlege the fact that I'm there and men are always waited on first.

I’ve tried to be patient with these guys, but my patience ran a little thin today. The shop obviously does not have an outpouring of women clientele and it is apparent why. The person waiting on me today seemed a little testy just seeing me there. I had to ask him to remove the pistol from the display case or he wouldn’t have even shown it to me. I think I lost his respect when I shoved the barrel away from my face, where he so diligently had it pointed. :)

He either knew very little about the gun or was not interested in selling it to a woman. I really lost his respect, when I shoved the barrel away the second time, which by the way, was once again pointed right at my face. As I shoved it away the second time I said, in the huskiest female voice I could muster, “you are pointing that gun at my head.” The look he got wasn't one of my most friendliest either...By this time it was apparent I had an ignorant a@@ on my hands.

I was so angry when I left there. It could have been the best deal in the world, but it will have to be someone else's good fortune. He won't be getting my money.

OK…rant session now over.

LJ, If that shop is a place you wish to frequent, it wouldn't hurt to bring it up to the manager or owner. I had a similar problem at Dillon Precision last week. I rode up on my bike and didn't look a thing like the good old boys chatting around the counter. Needless to say, I was ignored. Too bad for them.

LDJ-
IMHO, the absolute worst place for firearms info or advice is at the gun store counter. Other than the *rare* owner-operator and staff, you're often dealing with simple clerks. These dweebs couldn't find a spare mag in their back pocket if they had both hands on their butt!

Would you trust the bank clerk to tell you where to find the best mortgage? The IRS clerk to tell you where to look for deductions? All the rest, regarding women, follows...the patronizing, the preaching, the dismissing.

Answer: Find another Gun Shop. There's good one's out there. But they're few and far between.

Hey now....I'm not a wimpy girl, and I for one would love a pink gun. In fact, I hope my boyfriend reads this thread and clicks on that link (hint, hint)...seriously, though, that Bongo is an ugly Pepto pink! I'm thinking something with style, maybe a nice chrome with a light pink sheen to it?

Years ago when they came out with the specially designed "ladies' pistols," those itty bitty things with fancy engravin' and purty colors, I was all offended and indignant...that was when I was a (cough) feminist. Now I'm secure enough in my chickitude to say that I think a pink gun would ROCK and I'd be proud to carry one!

I do agree with toes' suggestion about the grips and stocks. I have little tiny hands and I have a hard time getting a comfortable grip on my .357, but I don't want to go to a smaller gun. It would be great to have a decent sized gun with girl sized grips.

I've got one for you. Alright, alright, stop that damn laughing! I'm not planning on crossing over.

I was in a gun shop when a lady was trying to find a gun suitable for her. The clerk was knowledgable enough and was trying to be helpful (unlike Jess' experience). He was showing her how to rack the slide of a pistol. He racked 4 times quickly showing off his muscles all the while. Then he handed it to her for her to try it. Try as she might she couldn't even get it started backwards. She ended up with a revolver and walked out very satisfied.

My question to the gun mfgs would be to see if they can come up with a progressive recoil spring assb. such that the initial effort would be much lighter to rack a slide and would become heavier only as it continues back. It seems if someone can get the slide started, it is easier to continue even if it takes a lot of effort. I know all springs are progressive in a sense, but not quite enough for some of the fairer sex.

I could get my fiance a pink gun, but I'd have to file the front sight off, smooth the sharp edges and coat it with grease. You figure out why. :)
Doesn't the new Walther have 3 sizes of grips you can adjust on the same gun? Maybe y'all should look into it and see how small the small size is.

Well, I'm a guy, in fact I'm one of those 6'4" 300 lbs types (294 actually).

But on behalf of my wife who shoots, but isn't a member here, she agrees with Mal. The recoil springs are often too hard to pull back. Also the triggers are often to far forward. She has decided on a Ruger p97, over everything else, because she can reach the trigger, and the slide is easy to pull back.
