My hometown is up to its usual wackiness...
There is an upcoming primary election here in Philadelphia, and there's a question on the ballot that I'm urging all gun owners and fair minded folk to vote NO on.
City Council has placed a refrendum question on the ballot about whether or not Philadelphia should have its own, seperate gun laws than the Commonwealth does.
"Shall the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter be ammended to call upon the Pennsylvania General Assembly and the governor to pass legislation that would permit Philadelphia to enact constitutionally lawful (yeah, right... can you smell the BS?) legislation to prevent and reduce gun violence?"
Of course, what it is really saying is that Mayor Street and his lackeys want a return to the "good ol' days" when only a select few (-i.e. campaign contributors) could get concealed carry permits in Philly.
Mayor Street has complained that there are 28,000 permits to carry guns here in Philly. He has talked about an (illegal) moraturium on issuing new permits here in Philadelphia, yet no permit holder here in Philadelphia has been arrested for murder (despite the Mayor's best wishes... trust me on this one).
This referendum does NOTHING to prevent "gun violence" here in Philadelphia and it's not even binding. Current Pennsylvania law specifically forbids this city from making its own firearm laws and it should stay that way.
Teach Mayor Street a lesson - Vote NO on this.
