A brief Eclipse...

So after 1,000 rounds of all kinds of feeding & ejecting problems with my Eclipse, the thing starts working perfectly, and I mean 100%.

So I'm bonding with this gun all over again, shooting reasonable groups with it, really enjoying the thing.

Took it out today and as I'm thinking to myself how extra-nice shooting this gun is, after about 20 rounds all of a sudden the blade on rear sight just flies off a good 15 feet.

Metal snapped clean.

I'm sure Kimber will fix it, but what a waste of time and range session!

And just in case: can anyone recommend a good 3'rd party sight that will fit?

Since you said blade I am assuming it was the adjustable rear?

Ashley makes one but you give up some precision with the design, pretty quick to aquire though. They make a set for Kimber fixed sights as well if that is the case.

Thanks for the link, those look interesting.

And yes, this is a "Target Eclipse" with an adjustable rear. Since it is used strictly for target I'd like to get a good quality sight.

The change in reliability is a good thing to hear. I have about 300 rounds through my Pro Eclipse and have had some problems with failing to return to battery on the last round. I think I just need to shoot it more. I sure like the accuracy of this pistol, it will outshoot my HK 45 Compact hands down. Good luck with the new rear sight.

Don't forget good ol' Bo-Mar. They also make a version to replace the Kimber adjustable sight.

Dave, after almost 1,000 rounds and tons of problems I called Kimber and FedEx and was ready to ship it back for repair.

Never made it to FedEx because I got too busy, but somehow the gun magically decided to behave and has been completely flawless in about 500 rounds, regardless of magazine (factory or Wilson) or ammo.

Matter of fact it is sweeter and more accurate than ever IMO.

So yes, there is definite hope for yours!

Called them today, Kimber will swap my sight when I ship them my broken one, fair enough. But it wasn't great to begin with, so I'll look into the aftermarket links, thanks!

Glad it's running well. I had a terrible experience with mine; at about 900 rds, it went back to Kimber for good (it's second return trip). I sold the replacement gun after its first jam.

My sympathies for all you Kimber Fans:

Gun Tests recently tested the Kimber MK II's. The problem is the poorly-designed firing pin safety which causes feeding & ejection malfunctions as well as a variation in trigger pull from shot to shot. When the staff at "Gun Tests" contacted Kimber, they were IGNORED! I have also heard of problems with the Meprolight sights. I never bought another Kimber after my disgust with a $1,200.00 Gold Match that wouldn't work reliably. Since life is too short for frustrations in an $1,100.00 pistol, if I wanted a 1911 design, I would go for Springfield "Loaded." But since I care more about reliability than nostalgia, I rely on my Glock Mod. 21 & HK USP. (2,500 rounds each with NO malfunctions)

The notion that the Kimber FP safety causes a variation in trigger pull is complete horse manure. It doesn't even work off of the trigger! It is disengaged once the grip safety has been depressed.

My only beef with the FP safety is that the grip safety must be fully depressed in order to release the firing pin. If you hold the gun with a weak or improper grip the pistol may not fire.

Well, its been only 11 days but no sight in the mail yet.

And I don't think my Eclipse will ever join the ranks of a defense weapon in my house.

But it sure is nice at the range!

Kimber Eclipes II

I had nothing but trouble with mine. Its been back to kimber 3 times now and still has to go back and get the scuff's and scrathes they put on it repairing it.
But it does shoot sweet. The trigger is light and crisp!
And it shoots one ragged hole @ 50, this is common when I do my part.

Tony

Sorry to hear about your trouble with your Kimber. I have a Pro Eclipse I have had for about 3 months and have not had any problem with it so far. Love the gun. I hope everything works out for yours .. Good Luck:D
