I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience with a BlackHawk bi pod? did You like it? would you recommend it? any issues that you've experienced? it will be mounted to a Savage trophy hunter xp 30-06. if you have any other suggestions id like to hear them, but really seeking any advice about the blackhawk.

thanks:)

I have not used the blackhawk. I have a harris and love it. I would recommend a notch leg design over a friction lock. Thats how my harris is and its quick to asjust and secure. I know other manufactures make the same type, not sure if blackhawk does or not.

Think twice, buy once--Harris.It's not just the name that has the price- It's the quality. I have always had friction ones and never had any issues. In most cases the height is set before shooting starts any how.

I have a Blackhawk that I use from time to time when I am laying on the ground coyote hunting. It I usually attached to my AR. It has the friction lock legs, I think 6"-12"? And it has a friction lock to the traverse also. Never had any issues with it. I also use 10 round mags when doing this, or there would be possible ground clearance issues.
For what I paid for it, I can't complain and it has served me well.

I have one on my savage and I haven't had any issues. That said I've never sprung for a harris or anything nicer before. I usually shoot off a bag but decided to use a bipod on this particular rifle.

I too have a Harris and would recommend notched legs too, I haven't used the other type but have a mate who has and said they were a massive PITA, and they look like they would be. I'd also recommended the swivel head version too.

Is it going to be off the bench or for hunting?
If off the bench then a 6-9" size one would suffice, but anywhere else a larger (9-13) will be much more suited.

I've never used one, but there are lots of cheaper copies of the Harris's and for not a huge amount more you can get the real deal and get a much nicer feeling/looking, and more than likely better quality bipod.

I have the harris 6-9" Friction and Notched, go with the Notched. Been meaning to try an atlas bipod they're just so damn expensive.

Here's a good comparison between the Atlas and Harris. The one drawback to the Atlas is there is no tension lever/mechanism to lock down the bipod's pivoting sway. That's a drawback but the simple fact that you can pan with the Atlas is awesome, that means for a mover no moving the entire weapon just turn and follow.

Though for what you'll be doing just go harris. I have two of them i love them they're great if you don't feel the feet stick enough to properly load the bipod you can always buy JEC leg spikes

If it's mainly for hunting without a doubt get the 9-13.

I have a 6-9 Versapod, but due to the way it mounts it sits a lot higher than my 6-9 Harris, the Harris is a bit short for field use I find. Considering it's for field use I would definitely want notched legs, and I think the swivel model would be a great help too. You could also look into Versapods too, only problem is they weight a lot more than my Harris, but they are nice to use.

I'd say the main draw back of the Atlas Bipod is the cost!

The Blackhawk Bipod will probably do you very well, but if you spend a little more and get the real deal you wont regret it. SWFA do a 110% price match, and I almost guarantee Amazon will have bipods for cheaper, so you could save some coin there.

I don't own a Harris, probably should, just so I can "get" what the "advantage" is...

What exactly "real deal" means, is beyond me...

I'm about quality and results, not buying a name. Not knocking Harris, their reputation is proven. However, just because it's NOT a "Harris", does not imply automatic inferiority.

I do own two Blackhawk pivot/traverse bipods- and have three more arriving from Midway tomorrow for current builds I'm finishing.

They're rock solid, and do what they're supposed to do.

They're not "cheap", being only about $20 less than the Harris, the pivot feature means you're not making minute adjustments to the legs to level the rifle, and the traverse feature makes target acquisition that much easier.

Having never seen the bipod in question, I cannot say that the Harris is worth the extra money. But based on every other copy of a product I've always seen, the copy is not usually as good as the original (real deal). I may be wrong though, and I would happily be proven wrong, but in my experience that is what usually happens. If I could handle both in a store and see what they were like I would judge them next too each other. But in this internet age you can only guess that they will be the same, or if someone own's both, take their opinion.

The major thing that would put me off the bipod in question is the non notched legs, without them I wouldn't buy one. But that's just my thought's.
I got sick and tired of buying copies of things, and having them almost as good as the original. This may not be the case here, but I was quite willing to spend a little more and get guaranteed quality.

The other thing is quite often cheaper copies can be made using cheaper materials, which often means to get the same strength more material is used and a heavier product is made. Again, not saying this is the case here, but without comparing them side to side, it's not really possible to know for certain.
