A Better .357 Than The SW 66

Now I ask you, is there a better discontinued .357 still on the market today than the Smith Wesson Model 66??? I have 2 with the 4" Barrel, and 1 with a 2 1/2" barrel. The 2 1/2" is perfect for me it fits my hand, a 'K' frame chambered for .357magnun/38Spl, and holds 6 rounds. Finishwise these things are excellent. Great for carry or home defense. But, is there a better one, somewhere??? Besides the Python, that is!!! ;)

Despite my love for the 2.5" K-frame, something in me refuses to acknowledge anything other than the 3.5" .357 Magnum (AKA Model 27) as the ne plus ultra of revolvers. But this is a close second:

Well there is the 686 but still for me I would rather have a 66 anyday.Got two with four inch barrels have yet to find a 2 1/2 but then I have a M19 with the short barrel. :p

Ya, but Rick look at all those scrambled egg things growing out of it. And those engraved types are worth thousands. Now my little 66 is only worth a few hundred... ;)

Nothing is better than my 2.5" M66. On the other hand, other guns like my 2.5" 386 are just as good but have a slightly different niche! Dennis

The Colt nothing .357, older than I am, has a sissy looking skinny barrel. :D

My Colt Trooper is a little large for carry, has great action, and, and, and!!!

I am going to regret posting this thread, because I can't stay up all night and defend it... :(

Great looking revolvers.

I think the 66 is awesome.

I have a Satin stainless factory mag-na-ported 3" 66-4 with wood grips on layaway. :)

You had to add that little caviat "still on the market today", otherwise I'd say N-frame all the way, baby in the form of the 27 or 28!!!! :D

Yep.
Used 19's and 27's.

66 is ok, but kind of souless like all stainless steel guns.
Blued carbon steel has a certain warmth , friendy appearance and finished look that stainless steel lacks.

Maybe it's just me, but stainless steel always strikes me as being something that left the factory before the final steps were done.

"lob it right in there" -- this is too easy

I'm kinda fond of my 5.5" and 7.5" 357 Redhawks; prefer (so far) the 7.5" for IPSC.

S&W's; yeah right LOL.

The FBI issued mod 13 is at least an equal or maybe better with fixed sights. It was availible in 3"&4", k-frame, rd butt, blued, the 3" fully extracted the spent casings.

Hey Hal

Aren't the 66 and 19 the same gun??? If that is correct why is the M19 a better gun? Because it's blued? I like blued... ;) I'm not an expert in this stuff so I rely on some of you to keep me straight...
