9x18 versus 38 Special ???

How do these two loads stack up? I just ordered a Makorov, and I know that the 9mm Makorov is between the Luger and a .380, but closer to the .380. I'm just curious how it stacks up against other loads, like the .38. Any ammunition experts out there?

There are some pretty nasty .38spec loads out there. Cor-Bon defensive .38spec 125 gr at 1125fps is pretty mild. My defensive practice handloads are 125 at 1200fps. I have used 158gr at 1200 but they are a tad barky. There is a lot of overlap between mild .357mag loads and hot .38spec loads. I think the .38spec will outperform most of the 9s till you get up to 9X23 and longer.

There are a several currant manufacturers of ammo that hang out on these boards and they can give some hard up to date data re the 9Mac vs .38spec.

Sam...my favorite 9mm is the 9X32R

I agree with C.R.Sam. Look at the case capacity. The only reason why the longer cases on the .357 than the .38 was to keep this new level of ammo out of .38 that were not designed to take the punishment. I think modern era .38's would be able to safely handle .38 ammo that dublicates 80% of 357 rounds. Same reason to the .45Colt. way loaded down in fear that someone would put hot loaded ammo in their old guns.
