I just ran across the Bizon-2 machine pistol which uses either regular 9x18 which is 95 gr @ 950 fps or the Modernized Pistol Cartridge which is 9x18 95 gr. @ 1247 fps (weights and speeds in fps after converting mathematically).

This ammo looks like it might be just the ticket for us Makarovians!!!!!!!!

Are any of the 'modernized' pistol rounds available in the U.S.? Has anyone tried them in their Makarov?

If it's clocked at 1247 fps out of a Bizon then how fast would it come out of the shorter barrel of a PM?

If it is available here, Wolf will sell it.
I checked their website, and no they do not offer it. Just the 109gr @ 1033 ft/sec.

Errr...bad news, guys. The stuff probably has a steel penetrator core buried in the lead, and importing it into the US would be a felony in a handgun caliber.

See, standard Russian military doctrine has been "fight like hell in the winter and laugh while the other side literally freezes up". Given Russian winters, they expect to be dealing with heavily clothed targets. So even their cops use what we'd call "armor piercing" loads. They get round expansion by having the jacket and lead slide down the penetrator core, exposing a fairly sharp steel tip.

It's a very slick approach, except it's totally illegal in the US. Overpenetration in urban areas is also bad bordering on crazy, but then again, the commies simply didn't give a flying f%$# :).

I also understand that it could damage/destroy a standard Makarov. If memory seves, the, also "modernized", Maks that were designed to use this cartridge had intentionally rough (scored) chambers, meant to delay blowback until pressures reached a safe level.

That's what I figured. If you want a .357 magnum then go buy a .357 magnum. :p
