9mm question Berretta 92 compact M vs CZ 75 compact?

I like to look ahead, and after my 45 purchase I want to obtain a nice 9mm.
Primary concerns:
1. Wife can only shoot her PPK clone due to small hands and weak grip.
The 92compactM is single stack, the CZ compact remains double stack.
2. Capacity stopping power etc, is not important in this decision.
3. I really enjoy shooting my M9 in the service and love the Berretta 92 series, which is my bias since I have heard many things good about the CZ line such as price accuracy etc.
Any help, esp. concerning the M model would be greatly appreciated.

I recently looked at both the compact M9 and the CZ compact. I own a Beretta Brigadier s I am also familiar with their pistols. It would be a hard decision, but I would favor the CZ compact over the Beretta for a few reasons, primarily because high cap mags are still out there for the CZ. Beretta has reintroduced a compact 10 rounder that they had discontinued a couple of years back(with a mag cap. of 13 rounds I believe), but I have held the 8 round Beretta. I shot both full-size and CZ compact and liked them quite a bit. Slimmer aftermarket grips can be had for both though, and they can really reuduce the circumference of a pistol grip, if grip size is an issue. Hope this helps...Mike

While I've not shot either of the compact versions you mention, I have owned both the Beretta 92 (and 96) and the CZ-75. I shoot the CZ-75, now.

I much prefer the CZ-75. It seems to be a fundamentally more accurate weapon, is just as durable, and is the most natural "pointing" weapon I have.

Go CZ. You'll save quite a bit of money, too.

I've got experience with a 1994 (year of introduction) CZ75 Compact and a Beretta 92FS. The CZ75 Compact is a heavy pistol, being all steel, but it's very accurate. It's one of the most accurate pistols I've ever handled. In fact it was downright boring. The best group I got was with Winchester 115 grs at 10 yards, 1.5 inches. For me that's excellent, I'm sure others could do much better with this pistol. it can be carried cocked and locked or the hammer manually dropped and carried DA.

Now CZ offers many different CZ75 Compact models. It comes in DAO, aito hammer drop model (can't be carried cocked and locked) and my favorite the PCR-an alloy frame hammer drop version. For carry I think the PCR would be tough to beat. Preban 13 rounds mags can be had from CDNN for about $70, but you must clearly state that you want the original mags with the curved baseplate, otherwise they'll ship you Czek (yes, that's the spelling mags) that are aftermarket. Other CZ clone mags, such as those for the Springfield P9 and TZ Compact, can be modified and work well.
