9mm +P+ Which Guns Are Verboten

Now that we have a source for the (IMO) incredible Ranger SXT 127 grain +P+ in 9mm, I'm left wondering just which guns are cleared BY THE MANUFACTURER for any exposure to +P+, acknowledging of course that any such usage in any gun will accelerate wear at the very least.

I know that the USP9 and USP9c are +P+ cleared by H&K, whilst for example Earls states that the Walther P99 is not.

Now all the police agencies who are using the Ranger ammo as duty carry must be doing so in Glock 17/19's, Beretta 92FS, Sig P228 etc.

So what does the manual of arms state for these other high line guns in relation to the use of +P+ 9mm.

Anyone know.

Is 9mm +P+ OK in pistols?

From the manuals:

Beretta 92 says: Yes--extended use may shorten the pistol's life.

Ruger P8X says: Yes--with no qualifications.

Glock says nothing.

H&K USP says: Ok for anything loaded to SAAMI or NATO specs.

I can type in the exact quotes if it's critical that you know the exact wording.

I'd just keep the +P+ ammo out of the really compact 9mms. Not that they can't handle it, but the flash and recoil would be brutal and thus negate any advantage to using hotter ammo.

JohnKsa,

H&K specifically state that the USP9 and 9c are both rated for +P and +P+ ammo. This is also shown in their web site.

The USP9 is arguably the toughest 9mm out there, early testing involved simulating squib loads with an obstructed barrel and then chasing the blockage through with a hot round. Not only did the gun stay in one piece, it would also shoot afterwards. It's important to make this distinction because there is no official SAAMI spec. for +P+, only standard pressure and +P.

I confess to being a little disappointed (and surprised) that the P99 isn't cleared for "anything" in 9mm.

Gotta love that Ranger ammo though.

Guns Rated For 9mm SMG Level Ammo-

I've got personal experience with breaking several guns with old surplus Spanish SMG ammo, sometime back Paragon had a sale on the stuff at about a nickle a round shipping paid in 10K lots. Back then I had a store and range that rented guns, this was about the time the Glocks hit the market that I bought around 500K rounds of the SMG ammo.
Well, the Glocks loved the stuff as did the CZ-75s, the H&K P-7s and P-9s and the Beretta 92s. The 92s and CZs were refitted with 19 lb. recoil springs (a must!)
Guns that broke included the SIG 226-228s and loosened up the slide rails on a couple BHPs. Ahh the icing was the UZIs that blew firing pins and extractors, seems the israeli subguns aren't rated for the hot stuff while the cheaper MAC-10 ran like a Timex on the SMG ammo.
A rental range is the ultimate destruction test for any gun, some hold up longer but they all break.

Thanks,

The only research I did was to look in my manuals.

I got some of the Ranger +P+ from Botach @ 12.00/box a few months ago. A lot of people have had bad experiences ordering from them, though. Fortunately my order was pretty simple and I didn't encounter any problems.

Steve,

Same as Halo, Botach are selling new manufacture 50 round boxes for $12 and they ship.

I've seen the Ranger SXT sold for as high as $30 a box, and that could have been for a much older batch.

I keep thinking that Botach have screwed up only asking $12. If you ever need to use the 9mm for business, this would be your best friend, geez listen to me, anyone would think this round was special or something :D
