9mm +p or +p+ FMJ?

Those of you who carry +p or +p+ 9mm: what kind of FMJ factory ammo do you use to practice at the range? There should be some practice ammo that approximates what you carry. Otherwise, the feel and POI are different, and your pistol will cycle differently (unless you change springs constantly).

Reloading isn't an option for me, btw.

1. +P and +P+ are indications of peak pressure and have no direct bearing on bullet performance.

To find practice ammo that has the same point of impact as your carry ammo in YOUR gun, you are going to have to try assorted brands untill you find a match.

OK, forgetting about POI, what about cycling the slide? If you're set up for high-pressure rounds, wouldn't you want the same from your range ammo?

No. the +P and +P+ rounds are high PEAK pressure. Some of them slam the works pretty hard and some dont. If you find a cheap normal pressure round that cycles your gun and has the same point of impact.....you have found your practice round.

One of my favorite examples of high peak pressure not relating to performance is a pair of Winchester loadings. Both use identical cases, primers and bullets. And through the same test gun. One has about 10,000 psi higher Peak pressure and yet produces 340 fps LESS velocity. The only difference is the powder used.

IMO, if you really feel the need for +P or +P+ carry ammo, you should not be carrying the 9mm handgun. Obviously, you feel it's marginal, whether this is true or not. If you don't have confidence in your carry gun, you are probably likely to have problem is you ever get into a situation where you need it. Have you considered a .40 or .45?
