9mm+P and recoil springs

I`ve put a few thousand rounds through my CZ-75B MIl. now and I figured I`m overdue for a fresh recoil spring. Here`s the thing, I shoot mostly Winchester white box practice ammo but I put quite a few Speer 124gr.+P GDHPs through it too to stay familiar with the recoil and to be sure it`s still good and reliable with it. The stock recoil spring is 14#,I think I may want to go a little stiffer (since IMO most guns are undersprung) but I wonder how much stiffer I can go without reliablility issues with practice ammo. I`m thinking 16#, what do you folks think? Marcus

I think you should ask your local gunsmith. He can actually look over the gun and tell you what to do, whereas we can't.

Marcus,

The smith may be the way to go.

My Compact had a 17# stock spring and I tried and liked the Wolf 20# unit. I had a question about the actual amount of spring left in the stocker. Instead of having it tested I just replaced it. I went heavier as I shoot alot of hotter loads and wanted to take a little of the punishment away from my gun.

With the 20# spring, my guns has no problems with Win Whitebox and lawman range ammo. Its a real bear to lock the slide back at times though...I think its a good trade off...just for me and my gun IMO.

Shoot well

Hello. In my CZ75 9mm pistols, I replaced the factory recoil springs with Wolff conventional 18 lb springs. In all but one, they run 100% with standard pressure ammo and all are reliable with hotter handloads or +P ammunition. One of my guns will fail to extract standard pressure hulls about 5% of the time, but this gun is the one I've fired the least. The 17lb spring would likely run fine with any standard pressure round and adds some cushioning to the hotter rounds. Right now, I'm experimenting with a 1911 buff (synthetic pad type) in conjunction with the 18 lb spring since the 18.5lb spring and Buffer Technology buff works so well with the BHP.

Best.

I think I found the solution to my own problem. I replaced the 16lb. recoil spring in my 10mm Witness with a 20lb. Wolff right after I got it. The 16lb. spring pops right in my CZ. I`m not gonna leave it in until I can test fire the CZ and make sure it works 100% but if it does I have my new spring and best of all it`s FREE!!! :) Marcus
