9mm Federal 124gr. Nyclad HP, any good?

Anyone have any info on this load? Velocity, flash, penetration, expansion through cloth, ect.

Being an all lead HP, I assume it should expand fairly reliably, but I don't hear of many people using it.

Also, would it be safe to use in a G-19 & G-26?

I'm looking for a std. pressure load that offers good performance, while being easy for my girlfriend to handle.

Thanks in advance, JNB01 :)

Hello. I have heard that they should not be fired in Glocks as the nylon jacket can form debris that will eventually keep the pistol from fully chambering. I have not fired enough Nyclads through Glock pistols to have observed such, perhaps 100 at a time.

In informal expansion tests, the round's always expanded for me and in varmints I've shot with it, expansion did occur. I have recovered a very few bullets removed from fox and coyote, but they've long since been lost so I cannot re-weigh or measure them for you.

The below-listed velocities are based on 10-shot averages:

Browning Hi Power: 1079 ft/sec
CZ-75: 1109 ft/sec
Glock 26: 1063 ft/sec

There is some muzzle flash with this load. While not a "combat" situation, and I was wearing a headlight while varmint calling, I had no problems concerning any muzzle flash "blinding" me. I've not done a personal study on this so others may very well have more exacting information in this regard.

Best.

So you guys normally fire hundreds of rounds through your gun with out cleaning it? Okay. I've seen thousands of Nyclads fired over the space of a day... no cleaning. Several different duty style autos including a Glock 17. No such problems occured that related to the ammo. All jams that happened were the direct result of a few faulty mags that once identified and removed, further malfunctions were nonexistant. Nyclads are very reliable rounds. Great for personal and home defense work.

Hello. Well, no. I clean after each range session be it 50 rnds or 350 rnds. Thus, I'd never fired enough Nyclads between cleanings to see if the nylon debris claim was true or not. Was only just mentioning it. I agree that the Nyclad is a superb standard pressure load in 9mm. In fact, it would be my choice.

Best.

My wife shoots Nyclads.

However, they're from her Taurus 85. She mostly takes care of her own firearms, but I have cleaned her weapons when she doesn't have time. I've never noticed any nylon residue in the barrel. I don't think it comes off the bullet. I'll go and sacrifice a round and just see how easy it is to scrape off some of the nylon coating.

Nyclad ammo is good stuff, go for it. The lead is very soft so the bullet will expand and the nylon coating keeps the barrel from leading up.

I used to shoot a lot of .357 Mag Nyclad until it got expensive and tough to find (at least in my local area). Never had any problems with leading or plastic fouling. I'd gladly go back to it if I could find it and afford it!-TR ;)

Edited because I flunked typing I in high school.

I carry nyclads in my Rossi M-88, have shot a little over 500rds of it and have found it to be the most accurate of anything i've tried in the snubby. I've run a box of 9's thru my P-11, and found that they were very accurate and recoil was much more controlable, but I've only been able to get my hands on that one box, not enough testing on my part to let them replace my Gold Dots just yet. I guess I'll have to order some from out of state.

It has functioned perfectly in all my Glocks, and my Sig P228......but my Walther P99 chokes on the stuff in two rounds, every time, the slide will not go fully into battery. The Walther has eaten about a thousand rounds of everything else without a single hiccup.
