9mm Corbon ?

RECENTLY PURCHASED SOME 9MM + P 115GR. CORBON AMMO. THE LENGTH OF THE BULLET HAS ME A LITTLE CONCERNED. IT IS CONSIDERABLY SHORTER THAN THE 115GR. BALL, AND THE 124GR. FEDERAL HYDRA SHOK THAT I USUALLY USE. SHOT ONE MAGAZINE (15) FROM A MODEL 915 S&W, AND THEY FED FINE IN THAT GUN. DEFINITELY MORE RECOIL FROM THIS LOAD THAN WITH THE OTHERS PREVIOUSLY USED. I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY OF THESE THAT THE LIGHT MODEL 915 COULD HANDLE WITHOUT DAMAGE. I GUESS MY QUESTION IS, HAS ANYONE HAD ANY FEEDING PROBLEMS WITH THE SHORTER CORBON IN 9MM + P ?
I DID HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE CORBON FEEDING IN MY KELTEC P-32, AND THEREFORE DISCONTINUED THERE USE.
THANKS,
MR.G

Not all ammo will feed in all guns; suggest further reliability testing BEFORE trusting your life to it.

A 9x19 +P or +P+ will increase wear and decrease service life.

Is it relevant?

Both the 115 gr and 125 gr loadings from Corbon have a relatively shorter overall length. Especially when compared to Golden Sabers. I wouldn't let that concern you unless you have feeding problems. I've shot several boxes of 115gr +P Corbons out of a G26 and it was a handfull. Muzzle blast was definitely contibuting to male pattern baldness.

My only complaints about the safety of any Corbon ammo has been with the earlier 135gr JHP's in the .40. They had a tendency to have the bullet start seating deeper after repeated chamberings. They have since fixed the problem by rolling in a cannelure...I believe that is the correct term in the casing.

Anyway..back to the 9. I wouldn't worry about extensive wear in your 915. Even though it is an alloy frame, it is a full size duty pistol. If it concerns you, you could get an increased power spring to lessen battering on the frame. I've found the 124gr +P Golden Saber to be an excellent all purpose round. Standard velocity USA 115gr JHP's for home (wife can't handle the Corbons) and Golden Sabers for outside carry.

My wife has a S&W 3913 she carries and uses in IDPA matches. She has also used it in several training programs. We have over 5,000 rds of mostly COR-BON 115s and 125s. There are no signs of excessive wear and it has NEVER malfunctioned. I change the recoil spring every 1,000 rds or yearly...whichever comes first. I wouldn't hesitate to shoot +P ammo out of your 915.

The Cor-Bon 115 +P is the best load in my S&W 3913. Never had a problem with Cor-Bon ammo but always better to put a few hundred rounds of any load you intend to carry for defense through your gun.

Hmmm.... I'd never heard that before. I can only suggest as has been said here before that you fire many through your gun, and if you don't get a jam in 400-1000 rounds use it. If you do get a jam, consider not using it. If you get multiple jams, do NOT use it.

The reason it's interesting is because of the information on this website:
http://chris.cc/p7m13.htm

I've spent about a year running all the numbers and looking for possible solutions.

Captain - 5,000 rounds of Corbon! Do you own stock in the company or something? ;)

I have had problems getting the short fat Corbon to cycle reliably in my Kel Tec, my Kahr, and my Glock. Others have said the same thing. Just shoot a bit of it before you trust it. I prefer the longer pointy Gold Dot bullet for these reasons among many others.

MR.G,

The short O.L. of the Corbon ammo may improve reliability in some arms.
- I noticed in my G26 the first round would sometimes fail to load from the mag if the
round had a long Overall Length. The Corbon ammo with short OL gave the slide more
distance to build up speed and get the round up the ramp to the chamber.
- In my HK P7 PSP, rounds with long OL tend to jam on feeding the last round
(complicated reason, contact me if you want an explanation).

These are may main carry guns so the Corbon ammo is reliable for me. And the Corbon 9x19 +P 115 gr ammo has high power, high velocity, high expansion with nil flash.
