9MM choices

Well, I thought it was a done deal, test fire a G17(shop didn't have a g19) and go order one. Only problem was the muzzle flip was more pronounced than my P95 (with Handalls) as well as more pronouced recoil. My groups at 10-12 yds weren't bad but it was just easier with the Ruger.
Anyway, the owner got me looking at Sigs and Walthers so I'm back at square 1 again.

I've found another range with has all three guns for rent (g19, 229 and p99) as well as a Steyr M9.
Would appreciate comments on all four of these in comparison in particular the M9.
Thanks in advance.

i'd go with the glock or sig. i have a Glock 19, Glock 30 and Sig 225. i just got the 225 and haven't shot it yet but i can tell i'm really gonna like it. i use my Glock 19 for home defense and i shoot it more accurately than any other pistol i own. i also trust it more than any other pistol.

i personally wouldn't want to own a modern 9mm handgun that doesn't shoot +P loads like the P99 (i know the S&W 99 can't i'm guessing same with the walther). i don't know anything about the Styer.

the 9mm handgun that i find has the least recoil and muzzle rise is the beretta 92FS. i still don't have any trouble shooting my G19 quickly and accurately. i don't consider recoil a big consideration when choosing a 9mm handgun. maybe i'd feel differently with a .45.

basically i feel that glocks, sigs and berettas are the most reliable and accurate pistols made. glocks IMO are the most durable as well. because the Sig 229 has a stainless steel slide and a metal frame it has less recoil than the G19. if the recoil difference is too much for you go with the sig but if its not that big a deal then either is just as good.

Why do you want another 9mm when the Ruger P95 (which you got) is one of the best on the market?

Ok, to answer your question, if you HAVE to get another 9mm:

Seriously look at the Sig-- thought I have to say the P229 is NOT the best Sig model IMO. Your better off with a P226 or P228 (if you can find one)
Give Glock another chance.
Stay away from the Walther.

I have a G23, Sig 229, and a P99. Of those, I'll have to give the nod to the P99. I just like it the best. The best grips, the best capacity (compared with the 9mm versions of the others), shoots great, hi-caps are available (though as expensive as the others), adjustable everything, light, good shooting, etc.

While I like my Glock, it's a little finicky with certain things. The Sig is nice too, but the finish isn't great and it's heavy. You won't go wrong with any of them, but I'd say to take a long hard look at the P99.

Consider the H&K P7 series of guns. They are very accurate, light recoiling and excepionally reliable. I am planning my next purchase of another one after picking up 2 in the last 3 months.

I know what you're saying and believe me as I was firing both guns side by side--my wife shooting both also--we came to that same question--why not another P95?

I bought the P95 without shooting it in advance--just based on how the trigger felt and how it pointed--and I didn't go wrong. They sell around here for around $275 with 5% off if you're a NRA member; with those kind of $ and how it shoots it is by far the best value in handguns that I've shot.

Having said that, and I'm guessing I'm not the only only that feels this way, I'd still like to see what else is out there and what you get for the extra $. The P95 trigger is long--but light--and I think I'd shoot better with a shorter trigger pull.
My experience is with each handgun you try you learn something about it and about what you have already;either way I don't think I'll lose.

I am in Indy, may not be that far away from you if you want to shoot my P225, P226, and P210 (all are here with me). I also have the G23 (.40 cal G19) and a G30 here. You are welcome to try them out.

MikeM, you seem like a good person to ask this question. Beings you have handles and compared both the Glock 19 and the Ruger P95. Which is more concealable the G19 or the P95. Right now I have a P94 in 9mm and it is bulkier than its polymer cousin, the P95. So I am contemplating getting a polymer framed pistol. Any suggestions?

I have owned everything you mentioned except the Steyrs. I have the P95 and am presently thinking about another. The P97 is also a good choice if you want a 45. I owned P99s in 9mm and 40cal. I prefer the 9mm and right now I am lusting for another. To the question between the G19 and P95 - The G19 is more compact and easier to conceal. For accuracy of everything I have mentioned the P99 9mm was the most accurate. But it is very close between all.

I have both the G19 and the P95, and I still shoot the P95 better!! (Darth Vader will probably get me for that one, oh well.) However, the Glock that I shoot the best though is my G26. It is my carry pistol, although, I do carry the G19 too. The problem with the Ruger is that it is way to big to be used in that role, and I carry concealed about 99% of the time.

I used to have a P99, but it turned out that I did not like it. It didn't fit my hand very well despite the smallest grip extension. Mags were scarce, and expensive. I eventually traded it for my G19.

I never got into Sigs.

Rob:
The G19 is shorter, narrower and lighter than the P95, so I think it would be a better CCW. Having said that, the P95 isn't as large as it looks. Out of the box it looks huge, but once you start using it handles very well.

If you want to carry, the G19 wins hands down. Easier to carry because of weight, fewer exterior things to catch on, and the safeties are far easier to operate under stress. To target shoot...whatever feels good and you shoot best and are comfortable with. Me, I would be looking into another caliber if I already had a 9 that I liked.

I had real problems with Steyr M40 and M9. Maybe now the bugs are being beaten back. But I'm not willing to bet my life on it. I DO recommend the HS Arms HS2000 in 9mm. A superb pistol in every respect.

i I would have to agree about the H&K P-7. I have the P-7/PSP and I like it so far small low recoil and accurate more so than me.

Anyway here are a few pics for you to look at of the new toy.
