9mm Camp Carbine experiment

This weekend I am going to run an experiment. I am going to shoot various rounds through a Ruger P89 pistol and a Marlin Camp Carbine in order to assess how much, on average, firing a 9mm round through a longer barrel increases velocity. I have bullets in 115, 124, 135, and 147 grain weights.

Here is my issue - the Camp Carbine has Micro-Groove rifling whereas the P89 has standard rifling. This kinda makes for apples-to-oranges comparison of velocity as the difference may be rifling related instead of barrel length related.

My question to you is: is there anyone in the Gainesville, FL area with another type of 9mm carbine (Kel-Tec, Ruger, etc.) who might be willing to meet with me at the local range for doing this test? I intend to post all results here in TFL complete with statistical analysis and energy calculations. I will cover the range and ammo costs. Please e-mail me if interested.

Sounds like a fun project.

You might want to got to either http://www.milesfortis.com and click onf the "V. Church" Link or go directly to http://www.milesfortis.com/church/default.htm
and check out the article my friend A.K. church wrote on the Camp Carbine. He used a 4.5" Colt Combat Commander in 9 mmP as his comparison gun.

It might be interesting to see how the Ruger, Colt, two Marlins, and another carbine all compare with the same ammo.

Have fun,

Doc Hudson
