9mm 124gn SUBSONIC????

I was in my LGS today and they know im into suppressed guns. They ordered some American Eagle subsonic "suppressed" ammo for me

Its 124gn.....

Why would AE make a lighter bullet for suppressed use then the normal 147gn?

Any benefit to 124 over 147. Its all running about 1050fps anyway. Id think the heavy bullet would be better.

I don't have any personal experience with 9mm subs lighter than 147 gr, so this is pure speculation, but I'm guessing it's to make it even quieter when suppressed.

It takes less pressure to push a 124 gr bullet to the same speed as a 147 gr bullet, and less pressure means it should be quieter. The downside is that it might not be enough to cycle the action on some guns, and of course it won't perform as well as a heavier bullet going the same speed.
 
I load 125s to about 1050 fps, not because it is subsonic, but because it makes the power floor for IDPA ESP.
It functions MY guns, but then I am not into suppressors and their added weight on the barrel.
 
I just banged off a cpl in the backyard. A VERY small reduction in audible report over the 147's

I mixed the 124's and 147 in a mag and it was such a small diff it was hard to tell. maybe the same difference as FRP compared to subsequent rounds.

I think i'll stick with 147 and get the extra weight on tgt
