99f savage help

Can anyone help identify my 99f savage. Info i have found.
99f savage marked with the oval with sp inside and also marked with i9 on the boss. Has the brass rounds window as well and holds the rounds inside loaded through the top. Rifle to me is in excellent or very good condition.
Any help on exact manufactor year or what ever you can give. What i think i found was around 1957.

I also have an I marked lever boss on a Savage 99F [in .308] that appears to be a 1957 date code

However, the numbers were before the letter on mine: 17I

Which makes me wonder if yours is actually a 6I, instead of an I9.

The Letter refers to the inspector, and the number to the year, from what I've determined.

Yours does have the safety located in the lever area, by the trigger- correct?

[as opposed to the top of the tang, behind the receiver bolt area].
 
For Savage 99 rifles made before the mid-1950s, you can get a year of production from the serial number at savage99.com .
