91/30 Trigger

So, I've been putting up with my mosin trigger for some time. Then I bought a Savage MKII with accutrigger and I'm completely spoiled. My 91/30's trigger legitimately feels like a water gun trigger (if there were a marshmellow behind it). Is this normal? I've read about polishing the sear and shortening/shimming a spring to improve it. Has anyone tried this? I'm thinking of finding a guide and giving it a go, as I'm very mechanically inclined (and patient), but I don't want to waste my time if it's still going to feel like a water gun. What about the M39 trigger? Will it fit?

Hi. Battle rifles intended to be issued to illiterate conscripts didn't need a good trigger. Timney sells an adjustable trigger for your rifle for $99.95. Fits all Mosin Nagants.

I'm not in battle. What Vlad needed in 1941 and what I need in my yard are two completely different things, unfortunately.

There is a good mosin-trigger article on hi-point forums under the curios and relics sub-forum and it is stickied give it a look.

As you probably already know, yes, the horrible trigger pull is normal. And no, an M39 trigger is no different. As posted above, putting the washer/spacer between the sear spring and reciever works very well. I was able to get my last M44 down to about 5 lbs from a 9 lb factory pull. Polishing the sear and channell in the spring made it feel better but did not reduce pull weight. Havn't tried any of the aftermarket parts yet. Good luck and enjoy the rifle.
