I read this today in the Birmingham News from a wire report fo Nationa Briefs.
Its short so I will just copy it.

COMPTON, CALIF. A 9-year-old boy showing off a hadgun on his school bus Friday accidenally shot another student in the elbow, authorities said. The 10-year-old victim was hospitalized in good condition. The bus was a short distance from Longfellow Elementary School at 8:20 a.m. when the .38-caliber handgun fired, Los Angeles Couty Deputy Shriff Oscar Butao said. "The other student was showing the handgun to his friend, and it accidentally went off." Butao said. The youngster with the gun was taken into custody and was being questioned by detectives.

Folks this is the sort of thing that goes against we gun owners. Its really hard to have guns and be able to insure that children will never be able to get to them but its irresponsible to have them accessable with out proper safe guards such as trigger locks and etc. We do not know the circumstances as to how the 9-year-old came about getting the gun but some body probaly left it just laying around. Thankfully no one was killed.

This is a parenting issue - the child is too small to go to prison for this, but mommy and daddy shoulda known better...

But then what ya gonna do when the kid snuck the combo to the safe and the key to the trigger lock, loaded it himself, and off we go to complete the story? There is only so much you can do to maage some kids - but a good attempt must be made.

The type of people that leave a firearm laying around so a child can take it. Don't really care if they're a bad example to gun owners. All they think about are themselves otherwise the would've been responsible enough to keep the weapon out of react of children. They couldn't care less if we look bad.

You're from Alabama, so you might not know. The article is about children in Compton, CA. Bad area. Very bad. Most likely, the child found the gun stashed under a couch cushion, where his drug dealing, felon father hid it, to shoot at fellow drug dealers who come to rob him. Until further facts are printed, we won't know. There are law abiding people living in Compton, but my scenario is the most likely there.

It's very simple to ensure this doesn't happen. It's called good parenting. My parents had guns, and I never touched them, because I knew my life would become very painful if I were caught. If you have children, it is your duty to teach them about guns, your duty to ensure they only touch them at appropriate times. For some, that means a safe. For others, that means telling the child not to touch. It's up to the parents to know their child well enough to keep them safe.

Yall all have it right! I was raised with guns in the house, had my own at about 5 or 6 but knew what they were for and never touched them unless I was going to shoot something. Smething was always some sort of wild anamal and never my play mate.
Raised 3 sons, a grandson and a granddaughter in my home with about 20 guns scattered around the place and they knew that they were not to be touched. Now that they are all grown and gone I have them under lock and key to keep the boys, even got great grandsons now, from "borrowing" them and forgetting to bringum back.

Why is this reported? I heard about this in GA yesterday.

Dumb ass kid did a dumb kid thing.

So... What?

Ban kids from schoolbuses, ban gun dad's kids from school, ban shooting on scholbusses?

No...I've got it!...Ban 11" Knives, broadswords, haliburton, and halyards!

That'll fix those little bastards.

I saw a quick clip on tv about that, all it said was that the kid found the gun. I took at as found it outside or something, but who knows.. It is Compton. Maybe it was accidentally packed in his lunch by his crackhead mom.. It's all around a sad sad story, luckily no one died
