8mm ammo

Just picked up some Federal Classic 8mm Mauser ammo for about $16 a box of 20. I love Federal quality as a brand overall, but the ballistics of 8mm U.S. loadings seem pretty tame. It is a 170 grain soft point bullet.

I've read that Sellier & Bellot and Norma make good quality 8mm soft point ammo, but where is it available?

My M48A checks out and has a very durable action. For making noise and fun I'll use military ammo on pumpkins, but I'd like some better ammo performance-wise when it comes to taking it hunting.

I'd love to see what the 8mm will do to a coyote or feral cat at 100 yards with a soft-point bullet.

Please help me find a trusted distributor for 8mm hunting ammo.

Go European!

Because fo SAAMI restrictions, the 8mm Mauser ammo from US factories loaded WAY too light. There are a lot of great Euro loads in proper 8mm JS on the market right now. It's Europe's version of the .30'06 (actually, the .30'06 is our version of the 8mm JS). I've got some good stuff from Norma (Swedish) and from the Czechs, all modern and non-corrosive. There's also old military surplus for very low prices which is extremely potent and quite corrosive. The key is to simply give the bore a very good cleaning afterwards.
