8mm Ammo Recommendations?

I'm waiting to pick up three "new" Mauser rifles I recently ordered from AIM Surplus. They are a Yugoslavian M48 (like new), a German K98 (reworked by Yugoslavia), and a Turkish 1938 (looks pretty good for a $39 rifle).

Anyway, I want to order some inexpensive ammo for these. I'm leaning towards the Turkish ammo because it is very cheap ($83.86 for 1,400 rounds from J&G), and is reputed to be reliable. I understand that it is a little "hot" and is loaded with lighter (155g?) bullets than most other 8mm. But I'm worried that it won't be accurate in rifles designed for the heavier (close to 200 gr) bullets. I've also heard of ammo made in Equador ($115/1,000 rounds) that may be more accurate in some of my rifles. I've heard of bad experiences with Yugo ammo. Any recommendations or experiences? I would pay more for better accuracy or non-corrosive ammo, but I don't want to pay for new S&B, etc. Thanks.

Hi, Doug. It's me again.

The Turk ammo I have doesn't SEEM very accurate, but the sights on my two Mausers are poor at best. I have read others post their (much better) results, as in 2-3 MOA. It's so cheap, if you don't shoot it up, you can gravel your driveway with it.

Remember that ALL surplus ammo is suspect for corrosive primers and shoud be treated as such untill proven other wise. A simple method of cleaning you bore is to use Windex on a patch while the barrel is still hot, or good old US GI bore solvent.

Have fun.

Midway has 8mm for $70/700 with free shipping. Most of the other places don't include shipping with their pricing (generally runs about $50/1400 to ship it to me).

Had a bit of trouble with the Turkish stuff. Had 4 of 15 rounds fail to fire in my Yugo M48a. The Ecuadorian from www.ammoman.com worked just fine. $59 for 500 rounds including shipping. Seemed a bit more accurate than the Turkish too, but I'm not sure about that.

I couldn't recommend the Turkish highly enough. I bought a case with a friend, and have shot most of my 700 round half with no misfires and great accuracy. I have noticed no verticle stringing in 25meter zeroing sessions . I have shot it through a turk, a 48 and a preduce44.

All,
Thanks for the comments and advice.

JNSN,
One of my concerns is that the Turk ammo uses lighter bullets at higher velocity than most of the other 8mm (like the Yugo). How does it shoot in your M48? Do you have to mess with the sights to get the elevation close? I'd hate to invest in 1,400 rounds and find out I can't get it to shoot to point of aim in my Yugo M48 and German 98K rifles. But your comments have about convinced me to go for it. Thanks.
