87a

Have gotten a Stevens 87a that at first jammed each and every time. Cleared that, a weak spring. But now I find that the part that stops and or feeds the chamber sits too low at the feeder end of the tube to allow a round to be fed. I went to gun parts but the schematic was not clear and I could not get the name of the part. The rifle is in great shape and I would hate to have to dump it. Any info would be appreciated.

Looking at the part and what it does it is probably the lifter. The pin it pivots on seems okay and that spring is strong. When I assist the lifter by lifting it slightly the round will feed. Why it won't come up that further 1/8 inch on its own is the problem. And I thank you for your response.

Either it is rubbing something or the spring has taken a set and is not strong over a long enough distance. Since Numrich (e-gunparts) has the spring, and you can get a replacement should you damage it, I would try removing and stretching the one you have a little first.
