Ok,

Thanks everyone, for the advice on cleaning and lubing a new gun.

I field stripped it and dropped the trigger group. The trigger group is aluminum, so I would venture to say that the PM's are still this way. But, I have no idea how long this one was on the shelf. It seemed that the protectant had varnished a bit, if that's possible. I blew all the metal with Brakleen brake cleaner and let dry. Then sprayed all metal with the Remoil spray as per Rem's instructions. Shake excess and reassemble. Prolube(ptfe) on the action bars and bolt/receiver interface.

Rem says the remoil spray is enough but I like a little more than that. All the parkied areas absorb it nicely though.

Are there any other areas that need prolube as well?

I wanted to remove the stock, but the screwdriver I had wasn't big enough.

Also, the magtube ring that's part of the barrel is not parkied. No biggie, but come on what's with that?

Finally, who's got a good basic sling
for carry. I had a Giles and it's nice and all, but I don't need all that Tac stuff right now.

Regards, -Coop

There's about 6 slings here at Casa McC, Coop, mostly sporting types with an old military one thrown in.

For carry, I favor the Cobra style jobs, just for comfort. The wider area doesn't cut into me as much with a heavy weapon. They also don't slip off my shoulders as much.

Any of the Cobra styles would be good for you, IMO.Just dress with a good leather dressing and it'll last for years and years.

The ring is parkerized. It just looks different because the metal and heat treat is different. Thus the different color. This is common with parkerizing.
