870 VR beads - pressed, pinned or screwed?

Posted this on TRP but not much action there yet. So....

OK team, got a question.

I have a (supposedly factory Remington) Bradley front bead on the way for my '55 WM which currently wears a '69 28" VR barrel. The new bead is threaded. Upon close inspection of the '69 barrel, it appears as if the front bead is actually pinned into place. I can see what looks like a small (obviously) pin just under and slightly towards the read of the bead, running horizontally and 90 degrees to the VR.
The only other VR barrel that I have that looks like this is the one on my 1100.
I have several other VR barrels, two with Bradley beads. I do not see any pins in any of those.
Any ideas? These are all factory Remington barrels and all but one are polished (not Express) models.
Standing by for wisdom upload,
Mike

The old 870 and 1100's had pressed in front beads. The newer ones have threaded beads. The pin you see is ground flush with both sides of the rib and blued to match. This was for installing the rib and had nothing to do with the bead. If you look real close, you will see that the pin is way behind the bead and dosen't hold it into place. The bead has a small shank that is pressed straight down into the steel rib.

Your bead needs to be pulled straight up and out of the rib so it dosent break off. You can then drill the factory hole and tap it to 6-48 or 8-40 or WHATEVER size you decide to add. I don't like to drill and tap a HUGE hole for a bead like Mossberg uses. 3-56 is mostly too small. 6-48 works great on Remingtons.

You rock man! Thanks a ton! Do you mind if I post your reply over on TRP? That's where I posted this question originally.
Thanks again,
Mike
