870 slug barrels

Can someone please suggest a type or brand of barrel to turn my 870 clay killer into a deer slug thrower.

Are the replacment barrels in Cabela's for example good to go or is there soemthing better.

Any links or catalogs would be greatly appreciated.

Any other info about slugs and barrels is greatly appreciated. This is my first foray into hunting and deer slugs at all.

Hasting and remington both have full rifled slug barrels. You can get these with rifle sighst or cantilever mounts.


If you're buying new, I would look at Hasting's barrel

I have a 20" on a 870 that really shoots slugs very good.

Smiley, it might be one now, depending on your hunt environment, the laws of chance and you...

A plain bead sight will work with slugs to at least 50 yards.Average East Coast distance for a SUCCESSFUL deer harvest is less than that.

Unless that 870 is wearing a fixed Full choke ( and maybe then) you're safe firing Forster style alugs out of it, and oft capable of getting decent groups with the RIGHT alug. Try some form the bench and see.

If not, then get another bbl, and those HAstings bbls will work,so will a standard Remington bbl with rifle sights...

If you check out some of your local gun shops you maybe able to find one used.
I recently bought a 20" smoothbore Deer barrel with Rifle Sights that I came across at the gun shop for $75.00 used.
