870 Slug barrel

So I think I have my decision for a cantilevered deer slug barrel for my 12ga 870 narrowed down to a Hastings or the factory Remington one. My question to you all is have you had experience with either barrels? Does the Hastings hold better groupings and is more accurate? I am kind of a stickler for accuracy even though slug guns are not the most accurate. I don't want to pay more for the Hastings if it is not anymore consistent/accurate than the factory Remington one. If you can provide measurements of groupings you have had that would be great.
 
I just recently found that Mossberg is offering a cantilever barrel and scope combo for $180. I saw it at Gander Mountain a couple weeks ago, and also found it on Walmart.com.

I don't know what you've looked at, but it might be worth checking out.
 
870 slug barrel

I just placed a Hastings fully rifled barrel with cant/scope on my 870. Shot 5 different slug brands at the range this weekend to find one that grouped the best. Hands down it was the Lightfield EXP 2.75" .12 GA slug that performed the best. It is a very accurate slug out to 100 yards (didn't try longer range than that). Can't wait to go hunting in Ohio this December with this slug.
 
Just a suggestion:

Last year I went looking for a slug barrel for my 870. I ended up selling the gun and buying an 1187 with a rifled barrel.

Barrel for 870 - $150-$210
Sold 870 - $275
Bought 1187 - $400 (used but nearly perfect)
End Cost - $125

Now I have a gas operated semi with less recoil (and it is VERY noticeable let me tell you)
 
well, I'm from Indiana, too. I've been hunting with a Rem. 870sp for about 17 yrs. It has the rem. cantilevered barrel on it. I've taken about 35+ deer with the rig. It has a 1x5 simmons on board, and has accounted for all my big bucks. I'd get the remington.
