870 Sidesaddle Removal

Can a sidesaddle be removed from an 870, by one who is not mechanically gifted? Or should the removal be done only by a gunsmith?

If there were a trustworthy gunsmith nearby, I wouldn't even think of trying it myself. But getting the gun to a smith requires shipping by mail or driving a long distance, so I'm wondering if I might get factory pins from Remington and do it myself.

Any advice re whether or how to do this will be greatly appreciated.

The sidesaddle was installed by a gunsmith to whom I mailed the gun for that and other modifications. He kept the original pins.

Since I didn't get it on myself, might I have unanticipated problems getting it off without messing it up? I notice in the 870 INSTUCTION BOOK that the pins are call "trigger plate pin"s. 'Wouldn't want to do anything to adversely affect the trigger....

The pins don't actually contact the trigger, but rather hold the entire trigger/lifter assembly in place. When you get new pins simply unscrew the ones hoding the SideSaddle and push the new pins in. Simple operation.

If they are indeed trigger plate pins, the numbers are:

#767-206-010 20601 front
#767-206-060 20606 rear

Price is $3.93 each....
