Dear Shooter:
The "Limb-Saver" is the best I've ever used - they even make precision fit pads for certain guns.

+1 on the limb saver.

I put one on a 7lb Encore shooting .450 Marlin. These are like very hot 45-70 rounds. 350 grain bullet at 2200 fps.

It does not bruise my shoulder! Thats somewhere over 49 pounds of kick!

Limbsaver manufactures a version for Remington which Remington calls their "R3" pad.

They say the R3 pad reduces felt recoil by up to 30%.

It's so good, Remington is now installing the R3 on all Police guns, and most of their other harder recoiling guns, like the Super-Magnum line.

I've had a pad on mine for so long I couldn't tell you who made it. Off with the buttplate, screw on the pad and, with masking tape on the wood, sand down the excess. Easily done with a bench belt sander. Slower without.
There are slip ons that work too and the kind you wear(Tac-something). A ported barrel makes a huge difference as well.

I have a Knoxx spec-ops stock on my 870. reduced recoil 50% easy. Still rough on magnums thou. Cost a pretty penny, but when your life is on the line who cares about 100 bucks.

I'll send you picks if you like.
