what are the dimples that I have heard of on the mag tube? are they on the police models? I am LEO BTW. Anyone know what the little disk at the end of the mag tube is for and how to get it out without bending it? Its been kicking my butt for 2 days!

An easier way

Actually, I have found that the tool is unnecessary to get out the old style magazine retainer. Just remove the end cap on the (unloaded) gun. Then, point the weapon in a safe direction and load the magazine with DUMMY shells. The last shell should shoot everything--retainer, spring, follower, and shells--out the front. I found this out by accident, and never had to repeat it, as I installed a mag extension immediately afterward.

Crude and messy, but it works quickly and without damage.

'Nother tool good for taking out the donut type retainer is a simple bolt. Insert the head, hook it under the lip and pull out. Keep the thing pointed in a safe direction and away from all eyes.

Factory instructions for removing the magazine spring retainer cup, is to insert a screwdriver through the hole in the end, and gently pry the retainer out, moving the screwdriver around the inside so the cup isn't bent or sprung.

do I need to have the retainer disk? should i just take it out and toss it? It is the metal one looks like a donut.

thanks

The retainer is not crucial to operation. Since I keep my TB broken down, it has the donut in it so I don't have loose parts around. Frank doesn't have one, since it's not taken apart for transport.

007, take it out if you wish, but NEVER, NEVER toss a good working part. It'll come in handy someday for somebody....
