870 or 590A1??

Just something for HD and range duty. Definitely like 18.5" and both have the option. I'm noticing alot more accessories for the 870 and possibly more reliable because of longer history?

Although the 590A1 is mil-spec?

Have about a week or 2 to decide before I place my order. Glock 19 on the way and have to play with that first.

I like the 590A1s but the 18.5'' model just looks funny to me...

The biggest factor here is the safety position. Choose whichever location you like more; you won't go wrong.

I prefer the Mossberg design over the Remington 870. The tang safety is the biggest draw for me.

I have the 590A1 (51668). It's long and heavy especially when it is fully loaded, but the weight tames recoil quite nicely. Stoked with reduced-recoil 00Buck, it is downright pleasant shooting...and easy to shoot quickly. I keep full-power slugs in the SpeedFeed stock.

I can't really say much about the Mossberg, having not fired one in many years. However, I have an 870 Marine Magnum for HD. It's reliability is beyond question, and it's toughness falls into the same category. I've also used one for the great majority of my LE career, and it has never let me down. Just remember to keep it reasonably clean and lubed, and to rack that slide like you mean it each time you shoot [to avoid "short stroking" which could happen with any pump action].

I would go with the Mossberg 590a1 over the 870. It just feels right and operates better then the 870 in my opinion

I'll always pick an 870 over any Mossberg. But if I were buying a Mossberg the 590 is the only one I'd have.

I own a 18.5" Mossberg 590A1. I also bought a Choate plus one mag extension and also bought a CDM Gear MTR mount so I can mount a Streamlight TLR-2 light.
