870 Marine Magnum?

I'm going skeet shooting this weekend, and I want to get a 12ga shotgun. The only type of gun that I don't have. I have a 410 Snake Charmer II, I like it. But it is no good for skeet (ok, I'm really bad with it) it is better for back woods snake shooting (I wounder why it's called a snake charmer?). Well I was at Gander Mountain. And they had a Remington 870 Marine Magnum. I just loved the nickel plating. I guess what I'm asking, is it worth the extra money for it? They had a black 870 for a little under 400, and the Marine Magnum was about 600, if I remember right, is that high? Or should I save some money and get a mossy for 300$? But I really like the nickel. Thanks!

Remington 870 Express + can of silver paint = 870 Marine Magnum.:D

The 870MM is just a 870 Express with a paint job. If I was looking to spend $600 on an 870 I would get the 870 Police.

A 870 Marine Magnum is far from the best choice for trap or skeet, but excellent for home defense. Trap & skeet shooters prefer longer barrels than the Marine Magnum offers.

If all you are doing is busting clay pigeons, then an 870 Express or 870 Marine Magnum is fine.

Actually I'm going to Duracoat a beater 870 Wingmaster with their stainless steel finish as soon as school is out.

The Magnum Marine is NOT painted.
It's coated inside and out with a tough plated finish.
It was developed for use around salt water where corrosion is a problem.

The Magnum Marine is basically an Express model with the plated finish.
While it's not the best choice for shooting clay birds, it's a fine gun with a really durable finish and will last several life times with minimal care.

Sadly, Remington no longer makes a pump Skeet gun. For a starter gun, you might try a standard (wood stock) R-870 Express #25568 or 25569 (MSRP $383) and get a Skeet Rem Choke for it.
Or, a Mossberg M-500 #50120 (MSRP $354) and use the Imp Cyl choke that's included.
Or, a Maverick 88 #31010 (MSRP $249) and get a Skeet choke tube.
