870 Marine magnum mag tube wear question?

I picked up my first shotgun Saturday and i noticed some wear on the mag tube where the fore-end is. The wear is a long straight line slightly in the middle of the mag tube. Is this a normal wear? or do i need to disassemble the fore-end and do something about it. I purchased this used btw. It came with a sling, shotgun bag, a clip on plastic sight (the one that goes on top of the barrel) and a stock saddle. I paid $250 out the door.

I am still in the process of learning how to disassemble this baby but i thought i should check with the experianced members first for info.

Do nothing.
That wear is normal.

If you disassemble the gun and look inside the forearm tube you'll see several tiny "dimples" inside.

These are wear pads.
They contact the magazine tube and act as spacers to prevent too much contact between the forearm and the mag tube.

On older shotguns without these pads, the entire magazine tube was quickly stripped of all finish.

Remington added the pads to prevent excess finish wear and to reduce friction.

The best thing you can do, is to apply a THIN coat of a non-runny lubricant to the magazine tube in the areas where the pads are rubbing.
A thin coat of grease works well.

I also have a marine mag, and i cant get the blast marks off the end on my mag tube, where it sticks out past the barrel, tried all types of solvents and cleaners. Any ideas....
 
I successfully disassembled and reassembled my Marine magnum!:D Thanks to members that gave good advice and stuff to be aware of. I can honestly say that i'm comfortable doing it again.

Dfariswheel, i did saw the wear pads that you were talking about. thx.:)

SD Chop, i have the same blast markings on the tip of mag tube ext. Been putting some elbow grease on the tip with solvent but to little success. Maybe i just need to soak it first then work on it then.
 
For the blast marks, try a Lead-Away lead removal cloth.

These are available in most gun shops and are used to clean lead and carbon fouling from the cylinder face of stainless steel revolvers.

NOTE: DO NOT use on a blued gun....these will strip the bluing right off.
ALSO, test on your Marine Magnums to be sure it doesn't damage the plating.
It shouldn't, but check first.
