870 Mag Extension Question....

I currently have a magazine extension on my Remington 870 that is quite shorter than the 25.5" barrel. I have a 18" barrel on order for home defense and when installed the mag extension will be 1/2" longer than the barrel. Is this a definite no-no and will it cause problems? Sounds like a silly question but I need to know if I need to order a shorter mag extension as well. Thanks....

Thanks for the reply. I was just worried about performance and safety. I would not want the mag extension sticking out too far past the barrel as I would think that would defeat the purpose of the shorter barrel for manuverability in tight spots.

If you have a Remington factory extension it's supposed to stick out 1/2" or beyond a true 18" barrel.

The factory extension was developed as part of a military project and included a bayonet mounting system.
The extension end cap was for accepting the ring of a bayonet.
It will not be affected by shooting.

I am not sure but believe that the 18" barrel you ordered will turn out to in vact be 18.5" long. The Remington factory 2" magazine extension ends even with the 18.5" barrrel.
