Hey guys, on wilson combats website it says a certain load is best for home defense, Remington Reduced Recoil 8 pellet 00 buck, im curious about how much does this ammo run, and it says reduced recoil, i weigh around 130 lbs and the 12 gauge is my favorite, most think im nuts, will i notice a difference between a standard laod and a reduced recoil load. Thanks for all your help.

Tim

I think it's supposed to be 9 pellet OO. Anyway, I pay about $15 for a box of 25. It's really dirty ammo and shoots out a lot of gunk with the buck. It patterns horribly in my 870 and Mossberg 500. I prefer the Federal Tactical or Vital-Shok. And yeah, I do notice a difference in the felt recoil. It's about the same as shooting a 1 oz. load. Much lighter than regular OO buck.

You will notice a SIGNIFICANT difference between standard buckshot and "reduced recoil" buckshot.

Remington's Law Enforcement web site says that their reduced recoil buckshot has 40% less recoil than standard buck loads.

Reduced recoil ammo was developed for use by smaller police, especially women.
Smaller officers were battered so badly by buckshot loads that they were failing to make use of the shotgun, and were using the pistol in situations better handled by a shotgun.

After the good results in police use, many ammo makers began offering the reduced loads for sporting or home defense uses.

For further recoil reduction, without spending a small fortune on replacement stocks, simply buy a new Remington R3 recoil pad.

These new elastomer pads are sold by Limbsaver, Hogue, and Pachmayr, with Limbsaver being the best, and this is the actual maker of Remington's R3 pad.

Remington says the new polymer R3 pad will reduce felt recoil by as much as 30%.

Reduced recoil ammo coupled with an R3 pad will bring recoil down to quite manageable levels.

Low recoil LE ammo

Simply go to Ammoman's site and check out Winchester LE Ranger 00 buck. Then check out the Federal Tactical LE 132 00 buck 9 pellet load, 133- 00 8 pellet load, 132 000 buck (8 pellets). ALL are low recoil LE ammo, as are the tactical slugs by Winchester and Federal. You may have to buy them in some sort of quanity, but the individual boxes contain 5 rds. I've tried the above ammo. I haven't tried the Remington. All this stuff is made to LE standards. See which patterns best in your shotgun.

Federal has incorporated the FliteControl wad (used in their Turkey loads) into their Tactical line. This tightens up patterns A LOT! A 9in. pattern at 30 yds from a cylinder bore is impressive. The last batch of Fed. Tac. I got from Ammoman was the standard stuff (without FliteControl). Rumor has it that Ammoman has some of the FC ammo available now. Call Eric directly.

Remington's 8 pellet is good stuff also. I just haven't tried it yet. They developed it because they felt 8 pellets, instead of nine, helped tighten patterns and make them more even. Federal now has the LE 133 8 pellet loads to meet LE standards where an 8 pellet load is required. Not much difference from the 9 pellet load in my Wilson/Scattergun Tech. 18" cyl bore. All the Fed. Tac. has plated shot. Ranger LE, has lead shot but patterns very well in my gun.

I chrono'd some LE ammo yesterday.

Slugs--Fed. Tactical----1236fps Light recoil
Win. Ranger----1197f[s Light recoil

Federal Classic F127 RS---1495fps (plenty recoil!)
Brenneke 1oz. MP 1372 fps (recoil lighter than
expected)
Brenneke 1 1/8th oz---1343 (same as 1oz)
----------------------------------------------------------------
Buckshot--Fed. Tactical LE low recoil with FliteCont.-1124

Winchester Ranger LE (lead shot)--1107fps

Fed. Tac. LE low recoil (plated shot), no
FliteControl---1159fps

Last time I checked, Ammoman had a pretty good deal on the Winchester Ranger LE which would be excellent for home defense. Ditto for the Fed 8 or 9 pellet loads. They even have 000 buck! I do not work for, nor am I associated with Ammoman. I just haven't found large quanities of LE ammo anywhere else.:D

If the FliteControl ammo has a fault, it may be that it's too tight for indoors (but great for extending range outdoors).

I know this is more than you asked for--hope it was helpful. Just click on the attachment

Thank you guys soo much, and Nnobby, that was more than i asked for but perfect, can any of you guys explain the whole choke ti bullets thing, i have a smoothbore with open or whatever, what kind of slugs are best in thatm i was under the impression that slugs did horrible with out some sort of rifling, again thanks guys.

The Foster type slugs, and the Brenneke, are slugs designed with weight forward to work in smoothbore guns. They'll usually stay in 4 inches at 50 yds. Try Federal's new Truball slugs--they'll cut that group in half! The TruBall comes in low recoil, and standard. All are rifled slugs, but that doesn't mean anything. It was thought that by rifling the slug, the wind would make the slug spin. Forget it. It's the weight forward design that makes them relatively stable. The Tactical LE ammo utilizes the Foster type slug. Hits on a hostile human type target at 100 yds are obatinable if you have good rifle sights.

Sabot slugs need a rifled barrel to be accurate. Remington recommends a rifled bore for their Buckhammer slug.

O and Tomac, i just went to knoxx's website, and i will definitely be ordering the copstock, an probably the m4 stock as well those videos alone are what sold me, especially the comparison with the 870 and the auto loading benelli.

Owe it to yourself to try some Hornady TAP 00, too. Much reduced recoil and tight groups out of my 870 cyl bore 18". Having trouble finding much of anything in "reduced recoil" locally; guess these "good ole boys" enjoy battering themselves.

Stay safe.
