870 HD & TacStar Shell Carrier

I spotted a 6-shell TacStar carrier suited for the REM 870 - but I recall mention of problems that it may be too long and hit the fore-arm when racking - anyone know if this is true or not. Is a 4-shell carrier available?
Again - I have the 18-1/8 barrel HD Rem 870....thanks

I've got the 6 shell side saddle on my Rem 870 and I have no problems with it whatsoever. Just in case you do you can buy the four shell carrier on wilson combat's site and also brownell's I believe.

It depends on which pump handle is on your 870. The short corn-cob or rat-tail style work fine with the six shell holder.
The longer pump handles need to be trimmed. I will measure mine when I get home and update this thread, unless someone else beats me to it.

OK, home now.
7.25" for the short pump and about 9" for the long.

Easy way to tell: Bring the forearm back as far as it goes, if the wood/synthetic covers a good part of the reciever you need a 4 shot model, otherwise you can use a 6 shot.

I spoke to Remington about this. Remington is trying to discourage gun owners from installing the side saddle & is trying to restrict their police model with the 7-shot magazine to police only. That is why they lengthened their forend to make it harder to install the side saddle. They are real #*%holes when it comes to civilian gun ownership.
