Hello,
This is my first post, and before getting to my question I'd like to thank everyone for the great information up here. I'm brand new to shooting and this site has just been fantastic in terms of information.
Like many of us here on the Gulf Coast after the hurricanes, I've been in the market for a HD shotgun. Had pretty much settled on the 870 HD, but then started thinking that I've always wanted to get into hunting so why not get something a little more versatile. After much more research, yesterday I picked up a new 870 Super Magnum (26"). Paid $239 after $50 rebate. It seemed to be the most flexible in terms of ammo, etc. I also liked the ease of swapping out barrels on the Remmingtons. My plan is to configure it with a 20" barrel at home for HD and then pop the 26" back on when I go to the field.
Now, my (most likely stupid) question: I understand that shooting a 3.5" shell will have a hell of a kick, but if I shoot a 2 3/4" or 3" shell out of the 870 Super, will the recoil be any more or less than if I shot the same shell from a standard 870? Just wondering if maybe I should've gotten the standard 870 for comfort reasons, or if as long as I stick with the 3" or 2 3/4" shells in the Super it won't matter.
Thanks in advance for your ideas!
