870 express refinished

I am thinking of buying a used 870 express and having it refinished to new condition. Does anyone know what this might cost? I'm buying it from a family member so it does have some sentimental value otherwise I would buy a new one. I want to give it to my 16 month old son some day. Thanks for your response.

If you take what you pay for the gun and the cost to have a gunsmith disassemble, polish and reblue the metal then strip and refinish the wood, You will have much more invested that buying a new gun. I don't know what gunsmiths charge were you are but $50.00 an hour here is not unheard of.

If you have it bead blasted and parkerized it shouldn't be too much money, and parkerize is a much better finish than what an express comes with.

As for cost, a brand new 870 express can be had around $200 to $250 here, so a used copy that needs refinishing might be half that... depends exactly on what needs work, I suppose.

A good idea would be to take it before purchase to your gunsmith and ask for an estimate... then subtract this estimate from the price of a new one. Since it's family, and you want to give a fair deal, this process would be ideal.

Let us know what happens!

270Win: What you said was fair, the only problem is that jenks sooner's family would have to pay HIM to buy the gun. :D
