I just picked up an 870 Express Magnum. I'm extremely familiar with pistols and rifles but am just now getting into shotgunning. Any advice on extras to pick up and things to look out for would be much appreciated.

Congrats, you've bought one of the finest shotguns ever made. Darn little to look out for, and as for extras, plenty of ammo, range fees and maybe some lessons are what you're looking for.

The addons and mods can wait until you've gained some experience with the 870, then you can decide just what will amplify your effectiveness and what will merely deflate your bank account. There's plenty of folks out there with stock shotguns doing good work with them.

There's about a zillion old threads about 870s, a bit of research should show you plenty of input.

'extras' depends also upon what you want the gun to do. Is your purpose just recreational shooting, claps/trap, home defense, hunting (if so, what?), or all of the above?

But basically, what Dave said. Burn a few thousand rounds through it, and maybe take a general shotgun instructional course. You'll hind that shotgun shooting and rifle shooting look pretty similar, but are just different enough to matter.
