870 Express Help

Hey all,
I just picked up a used 870 express at a gun show today. Got a great deal and I am very happy with the gun.

However, I am confused as to whether or not I can fire 3" shells through it. The barrel says "12GA. use 2 3/4" or 3" shells in magnum receivers, use only 2 3/4" in all others"

OK makes sense...but when I look at the 870 express on the website, it says its fine to use 3"

I am not sure what year my 870 was made. Do older guns not function with 3in shells?

That is exactly the info I needed and exactly what I wanted to hear.

3in slugs are gonna ruin bambi's day this year.:D
 
Long as the last letter in your serial number is an M and your barrel has a 3" chamber, you're good to go for 3" shells.

Probably do better with 2 3/4" slugs though... try some Brenneke KOs.
