870 express finish (bead blast) vs. bluing (Wingmaster)

Actually both are blued finishes. The bead blasted finish of the Express offers more surface area to the elements than the polished surface of the Wingmaster, hence is theoretically more prone to rusting. But it also offers more tooth for holding oil, which prevents rusting...

All things considered, if they are properly oiled, both finishes will be safe from rust in equal measure...my opinion, anyhow

Cheers

TCW, maintenance and attention make more differences that whether that blued finish is better matte or polished.

Oldest 870 has more time in salt marshes and swamps than some hunting guides. No rust, anyplace. No rust on the others, either.

Romulus is on the beam about bead blasting being more prone to rust....took one fishing one day since i'm always the armorer (Wonder why)....the rustiness gun i've ever seen..Get one parkerized if you want to cut down on rust or buy something with some type armor coating....Dick
