I need the thing like I need a hole in my head, but the notion struck and I bought one. Wood home defense model. Trigger is excellent. Shotgun is mechanically flawless. Wood is beautiful Vietnam era looking oiled finish. It will replace the 30 year old 500 standing beside my night stand. Looks like post bankruptcy Big Green is bringing back quality.

There was never a problem with quality with a Wingmaster or an 1100. A few Expresses had rough chambers and got spread all over the internet. I am not addressing any pistol issues.

They had quality issues across the board. The dealer I buy all my guns from had quit selling Remington shotguns because of the quality issues.

Must have been. I saw a lot of their rifles that were not where they should be accuracy wise. Many of the 1187s looked like a kid did the fit work. Then there were the Remlin Marlins. Everything had a craptastic trigger. The recoil pads melted to the carpet floors in gunsafes.

I've got a few 870s. My first was an express that did have a rough chamber. The Wingmaster and the lightweight were both made pre-1990 and are much higher quality.

There were more than a few Expresses with rough chambers.

I personally encountered a number with poorly cut chambers, including my brother's, which had to be sent back twice to Remington for chamber reaming before spent shells could be extracted properly, and a friend's Express Tactical that would seize up when trying to extract live rounds.
