Hi all. Great forum.

I am buying a used Express Magnum 18" 870 from a local gunshop and they have two I am interested in. One is stock with the extended mag tube and the other has the adjustable stock and pistol grip with the extended mag tube.

The stock one is $270 and the other is $360. I am torn between them. I like the adjustable stock and pistol grip. Is this a deal, a rip-off or average?

They are both in good shape from what I can tell. I have called around to all my local pawn shops and no one has anything with a decent price. So this is my only option.

Anyone have any pros or cons to this? More than likely if I get the stock one, later on down the line, I will be adding the pistol grip. Doubtful on the adjustable stock though, but it is convenient

There is a gunshow coming up in a couple weeks, should I wait for that? I just bought my Glock G19 at a gunshow a month or so ago, but wasn't looking for a shotgun. Didn't really get a deal considering entry fee and gas money to get there, as opposed to what this gunshop wanted for it. Not sure how the pricing will be for the 870's at a gunshow.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I checked out both sites and neither one had anything that really interested me. Both seemed too over the top with Spec Ops equipment and specialty stuff.

Thanks for the advice and links, but I don't need anything that fancy or expensive.

I appreciate your time though.

You can get the basic M4 style stock with recoil absorption from Knoxx for $110 iirc. That is what I would do.

Edit: I reread and saw you don't care for a telescoping stock. You might check Speedfeed stocks. I've never used them, but they're an option.

I guess it would depend on the intended purpose.

If you are looking for versatility and comfort, I would get the stock with extended tube. You can always remove the extender, put a plug in it and change out the barrel for hunting and switch it all back for a HD gun. The stock also makes shooting a little nicer.

Generally speaking, folding/retractable/whatever looks cool, but can be a really pain to shoot.

I checked their website and they have nothing of the sort on there. Must be a local thing. Great deal though.

Anyway, just wanted to give a heads-up that today i went to the gunstore and picked up the stock 870 for $270.

It also has the parkerized barrel and was used, but doesn't look it at all. It looks brand new and I was able to get the original box and instruction manual and the safety lock key.

I am very happy.

Thanks for the thoughts and advice all.

A stock 870 is the best one IMO!!!! Pistol grips suck and are a show off piece IMO. I like a good old fashion remington 870 with a short barrel. Maybe a mag ext. if that makes you happy but a stock 870 is a true working horse no bull s#it shotgun. Used is good also because they are well broken in and are nice and smooth. Great choice with the 870!!!!

Congratulations on the gun!

I know I am kinda beating a dead horse now, but it was on page 25 of the weekly ad on the website :o .
But I'm at least you helped out your local gun shop, so congratulations on the gun I am sure you will enjoy it no matter what!

I checked it out and now I see what you were talking about. I still think I got the better deal though, b/c I would have had to buy an 18" bbl and also buy the extended mag tube, to equal what I just bought. Plus, the 870 I got is all black synthetic, which I preferred.

But thanks for trying to help, I appreciate it. And I do like to help local businesses, especially when they try to help me out and not see me as just a dollar sign.

Thanks again.
