870 barrel

So I thought I could save a few bucks by getting a 870 for birds and clays and then buy a 18.5 inch barrel for it so it could doubble as a HD gun also.
They have the HD 870 with the short barrel on the web sight all good to go but I don't want the synthetic look. Just not my style, I like natural look of wood.
The problem is they don't sell the short barrel by its self at least not that I could find any where. Why is this?? I would think that it would be a big seller for remington in the barrel department.
 
Cabelas web site has a 870 barrel with rifle sights, (they have two, one with a rifled barrel and one smooth, but both have rifle sights) I have the smooth bore with rifle sights for my home defense gun. I have only seen the rifle sights on 870's with the rifled barrel. I cost me about $130.00 with shipping.
 
Mossberg makes the plain 18" cylinder barrels for the 870. Not sure how the quality is compared to the Remington barrels, but Mossberg has a whole line of replacement barrels for 870s.
 
Interesting that Mossberg is making barrels for Remington guns. But hey, it works for me. Jump on the 870 band wagon.
Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure the quality won't be an issue.
 
I picked up a nice Remington 20" smooth bore rifle sighted barrel in wonderful condition for $85 shipped off eBay.

Barrels, bolts, stocks, trigger groups, etc. at great prices all the time.
 
Like GunsnRovers I have bought most of my short barrels online. I have a few 20" rifle-sighted IC or CYL bore barrels and I've never paid over 100 clams for one. Sadly as anti-gun eBay is, it is still a good source for barrels.

As far as ebay goes, it seems you can pretty much buy a gun there....... one part at a time. :)
