850'000 Moms Didn't Show Up

The MMM shrunk on the way to Washington DC. The National Park Sevice estimates that only 140-150,000 "Moms" showed up,

Guys, to prevent any future MMM on Mother's day, let's do our duty. Take Mom out to lunch or brunch, a play or movie or whatever she enjoys afterwards and keep her away from DC (Washington that is, not our DC). If your wife (significant other) has your kid, do the same thing as you would for your mother. Keep her away from the politics and use "romance" as an excuse. Boy, is that dirty or what?

I wouldn't be surprised if the number was way under 100,000. The National Park Service routinely under or over estimates numbers of people that participate in marches.

So many pistols, so little money.

The MMM will spin doctor this fact by replying that their collective demonstrations around the country add up to a million moms. Wait and see.

The other hundreds of thousands of moms that didn't show up was out shooting their guns. LOL :)

Concur. 70 to 100k for the MMM. Dunno about the SAS/AIMM, I had to leave early and the crowd was still growing.

Great rally, though. I could make a comment about comparative total IQs, but I won't. :D

Later,
Chris

Whatever the rangers project, Good Morning America and 60 Minutes will still spin it like 2,000,000 showed up.

Rosie must have eaten a bunch of people...

Denver Post listed a statistic- source unknown to me, that 45% of American households have guns, 25% of American have either been threatned with a gun or shot at (non-combat).

FWIW, one of the local Sacramento stations said the DC crowd was 750,000. Sure seems like a wide discrepancy between reports.

It seems that the National Park Service expected 150,000 and the Mobs expected 750,000. CNN claims that the numbers aren't out yet. ABC is known for unbiased reporting of the news. I'm sure that such a fine organization would get the numbers right. Tongue firmly planted in cheek.
Regardless of the numbers, without a major public education effort, our right will be taken away. We are the frogs in the warming waters. We are on the loosing side. Emotions can be communicated with sound bites. Our arguement takes a few more words. We need an organization with the nerve to place a thirty second spot on TV. A very big man is about to rape a woman. She reaches for her gun and it isn't there. You know what the announcer says next. We will never win with logic, because most people don't have the attention span.

While I agree that things look grim, don't despair. What it boils down to is this: they can pass all the laws, etc. they want. If we don't give up our guns, what good will the laws do? They will never come door-to-door to get them. Look at the statistics: if only 10% of gun owners defended their property with force, there would be literally millions of dead Americans in a short time, both gun owners and LEO's/military. Do you really think the public will let that happen? I don't think Americans, especially liberals, have the stomach for an all-out fight. I would bet that they would never even try. Look at Canada: they are simply refusing to register their guns. If enough of us say no, we will keep our rights and our guns. "Just say no." By the way, I'm not saying we should quit trying to win this "battle" for the Constitution by peaceful means. We should. But don't start negative thinking.

750,000 was the NATIONWIDE number. I've been to real cattle drives on the Mall, there was maybe 70-100,000 MMMers there TOPS.

Two Virginian Pilot reporters were published this morning. One article shows: "organizers claim 'as many as' 750,000 "people" showed up. Also that the crowd didn't appear as large as other demonstrations that have had lower estimates. It goes on to say that "with NPS no longer providing a count because of the debate that inevitably ensues, the calculation by organizers was the only one available Sunday". Just over three column inches was devoted to SAS which "drew hundreds of people, about half of them men ...".

In the second, a related local participant article, a 16 year-old high school girl was quoted and her affiliation is stated as "a member of the youth anti-firearm group 'Hands Without Guns'."

So - recap - (1) MMM turnout was probably not as large as "estimated"; (2) it was not strictly populated by mom's; and (3) it got 111-1/4 column inches in two articles of front page (banner-headlined-photo & text) and SAS got 2-3/4 column inches.

Seems that we have work to do if we really want to head off this attack on constitutional rights and our national well-being. This - as most of us up here are aware - is deeper, wider ... more perverse - than MMM. We can jabber, moan, groan and just plain chat all day every day, but we - in essence, are a small group compared to the whole country population - particularly when most of the country has bread on the table and bills as a more important daily concern - we don't command much (positive) attention.

We must gain a larger audience - not for our personal lamenting - but for sharing our concerns, our knowledge, and our skills with those who, with straight talk, could understand and support our efforts to defend existing constitutionally endowed freedom.

My 2 cents.

Mikul said it all... We must concentrate on combining the collective resources of pro-RKBA organizations. The Antis are.
